Applications & Industries

Ceramic Body & Glaze

Dolomite is a primary CaO/MgO source in ceramic body and glaze recipes — particularly for stoneware, terracotta and tile manufacturing where the SiO₂ content in the dolomite contributes usefully to the body chemistry. PIME's commercial-grade dolomite suits ceramic-grade body work and tile-manufacturer reformulation runs.

Agriculture & Soil Conditioning

In agriculture, dolomite acts as an efficient soil amendment, supplying essential magnesium and calcium while raising soil pH. Widely used in crop production to correct acidic soils, improve nutrient availability, and enhance microbial activity. Supports sustainable farming practices and crop yield optimization.

Soil Amendments pH Correction Nutrient Supply

Water Treatment

Dolomite is employed in water treatment systems for pH regulation and hardness control. Its fine particle distribution and chemical stability enable effective filtration media applications and alkalinity adjustment in municipal and industrial water treatment facilities.

Steel Blast-Furnace Flux

As a flux in steel and iron production, dolomite contributes CaO and MgO to the slag chemistry, improving fluidity and helping bind impurities. PIME's commercial-grade dolomite (total insolubles ~ 5.5%) sits within standard Blast Furnace (BF) grade specification (≤ 7%) and is well-suited to BF flux use. Not Steel Melting Shop (SMS) grade — that requires sub-2% silica.

Rubber Manufacturing

In rubber production, dolomite serves as a filler and processing aid, enhancing mechanical properties and durability. Used in both natural and synthetic rubber compounds, it improves hardness, tensile strength, and processing characteristics while maintaining product consistency.

Detergent Industry

Dolomite powder is utilized in detergent formulations as a functional additive, improving flow properties, water absorption, and stability. Its fine particle size ensures uniform distribution in detergent blends and enhances product performance in both powder and granular detergent systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is dolomite powder used for?
Dolomite powder is a versatile mineral used across multiple industries: steel blast-furnace flux, ceramic body and glaze formulation, agricultural soil conditioning, water treatment and pH regulation, rubber compounding, and industrial fillers. PIME's commercial-grade dolomite (CaO 30.2%, MgO 21.0%, ALS-verified) is well-suited to these applications.
What mesh size is available?
PIME currently supplies dolomite in 635 mesh (20 microns) as the standard processing grade. Coarser mesh sizes (200, 325 mesh) and lump/granular grades for steel BF flux use can be quoted against forward orders. Particle-size analysis is provided on request.
What grade of dolomite does PIME currently supply?
Not at present. PIME's commercial-grade dolomite (ALS-verified Fe₂O₃ 0.36%) sits above the cosmetic-grade ceiling, which typically requires Fe₂O₃ < 0.1% and tightly controlled heavy metals. Cosmetic-grade dolomite is available on forward order from our higher-purity producer network and can be tested against your spec before shipment. Please contact us to start a qualification.
Do you export dolomite internationally?
PIME specializes in exporting high-quality dolomite powder to global markets. Every shipment is supplied with a Certificate of Analysis and full export documentation, and we support third-party pre-shipment inspection on request. Our established export logistics and regulatory compliance ensure reliable delivery to customers across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and beyond.
